There are few relationships that have received quite as much public speculation and media scrutiny as that of the King and Queen or, as they were known when they met, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. But, despite the intense attention, the couple proved their bond was strong enough to stand the test of time, and they’re now celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary.

The couple first dated in the early 1970s, but went on to marry other people – Camilla rekindling a romance with Andrew Parker Bowles and getting married in 1973, and Charles marrying Lady Diana Spencer in 1981. After their respective divorces, Charles and Camilla began their public relationship and, in 2005, they married – six years after their first public outing as a couple. All of their children – Princes William and Harry, and Laura and Tom Parker Bowles – joined them on the day of their private wedding ceremony, and the couple have gone on to have 20 happy years together. In 2023, Charles and Camilla were crowned King and Queen.

In a public address when he first became King, Charles said he would count on ‘the loving help of my darling wife’ and praised ‘her own loyal public service’. As well as putting duty and family above all else, the couple proved they were capable of more than a little fun here and there. Here, we take a look back at key moments from their royal love story in pictures, from family outings and official events to heart-warming moments.
