In the early days, Netflix Original shows were generally safe from the axe for at least two seasons, but then Netflix cancelled The Get Down and nothing was secure anymore.
Some shows have at least got one more season to try and end their story, but not all have been so lucky. Here's a list of all the major Netflix Original outings that have been cancelled over the years.
Jessica Jones (three seasons)
Daredevil was Marvel's first modern TV series but Jessica Jones made arguably bigger waves, fighting the good fight in a #MeToo era.
Orange is the New Black (seven seasons)
One of Netflix's first big hits, OINTB is now out on parole after seven seasons in the can.
Designated Survivor (one season on Netflix)
Netflix bought the show after ABC let it go, but realigning the actors' schedules proved too hard for a fourth season.
Santa Clarita Diet (three seasons)
Drew Barrymore's zombie comedy chewed through three seasons' worth of brains before its untimely demise. A last-minute resurrection would be thematically appropriate, guys.
Daredevil (three seasons)
The hero without fear became the hero without a network in 2019, alas.
The Punisher (two seasons)
Jon Bernthal starred as the hyper-violent vengeance-monger.
American Vandal (two seasons)
The spoof true-crime documentary series was always more poignant and thoughtful than it looked at first glance, but at least we found out who drew the dicks.
The OA (two seasons)
Brit Marling's enormously complicated and ambitious reality-transcending fantasy was too big and beautiful to live, sadly.
One Day at a Time (three seasons)
The sitcom reboot is distinctive for having been picked up by Pop after Netflix discarded it.
Chambers (one season)
Uma Thurman's supernatural thriller wasn't long for this world.
The Good Cop (one season)
Did you miss the Tony Danza-starring comedy-mystery? You had to be quick, it didn't last...
Travelers (three seasons)
Will and Grace's Eric McCormack starred in this sci-fi about operatives from the future coming back in time to save the planet.
Iron Fist (two seasons)
Not the best loved of Marvel's TV series, but it had its fans. Sadly not enough of them.
Friends from College (two seasons)
US sitcom starring Keegan-Michael Key.
Luke Cage (two seasons)
Last of the Defenders to appear on this list (not counting The Defenders, of course).
Nightflyers (one season)
A co-production with SyFy, this was based on a novella by Game of Thrones' George RR Martin.
Tuca & Bertie (one season)
The excellent animation that none of us had heard of till it was cancelled.
Marco Polo (two seasons)
Benedict Wong as Kublai Khan!
Love (three seasons)
Judd Apatow romcom series.
House of Cards (six seasons)
The final series went ahead without Kevin Spacey for reasons that go without explaining.
