One Good Turn

Teal, Turquoise, Stairs, Publication, Book cover, Poster, Light fixture, Alley, Book, History,
Anything by Kate Atkinson: her writing is so rich that you can read her over and over. If I was picking one of her books it would be One Good Turn, as it is set in Edinburgh, a city where I lived for a long time.

This Perfect Day

Yellow, Text, Font, Publication, Illustration, Book, Graphic design,
I’m constantly buying copies of this Ira Levin book as I keep giving them away. Often compared to 1984 and Brave New World, it’s a futuristic dystopian thriller that was written more than 40 years ago and is utterly compelling and terrifying.

There is a wonderful children’s book called I Want My Hat back by Jon Klassen. It’s very funny, and my boyfriend and I never tire of reading it together.

I read the first one when I was stuck in bed with the flu, and reading them again never fails to cheer me up! I’ve read them all about four times.

The Princess Bride

Art, Illustration, Costume design, Visual arts, Vintage clothing, Poster, History, Drawing, Artwork,
I love this William Goldman classic. It’s a fairytale parody with pirates, princesses, swordfights, ‘troo luv’ and an interrupting author. Witty, heartwarming and unputdownable.

Little Women

Human, People, Interaction, Art, Vintage clothing, Conversation, Illustration, Poster, Painting, Drawing,
The opening scene where the four sisters and their mum are gathered around the fire on Christmas Day is so comforting, reading it is like wrapping myself in a warm blanket. And Jo is pretty much my favourite ever character in fiction.
