The BBC has announced a new version of the EastEnders theme tune will debut this week for the Jubilee special episode.
Composer Simon May has returned to work on a remix of his own classic theme for a very special edition of the soap airing this Thursday (June 2).
This remixed EastEnders theme tune will premiere in the same special episode that features an extended cameo from Princes Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.
"To have Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall not only visit us all in Walford, but to also appear in an episode, we felt it was only right that we marked this extremely momentous episode with a fitting tribute and what better way than to wish Their Royal Highnesses on their way from Albert Square than with a special Jubilee version of our iconic theme tune, remastered by the very talented Simon May," producer Chris Clenshaw said yesterday (31 May).
Also arriving is an extended clip from Thursday's episode – available to watch above – where Patrick Trueman enlightens the Duchess of Cornwall about some special rum he'd got from Trinidad.
Sharon Watts has some royal plans of her own, as she confides in Martin Fowler she's planning on asking the royal couple for an all-important favour.
As for this new theme tune, this royal version is the latest remix in EastEnders' long history. Other iterations include the melodramatic 'Julia's Theme' for important exits and 'Peggy's Theme' when the late Barbara Windsor left the soap.
Original EastEnders cast member Anita Dobson turned May's composition into a pop hit in the 1980s, called Anyone Can Fall in Love, by adding lyrics.
This latest version will premiere in a celebratory Jubilee episode on Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
