If, like us, you’ve been holding out for Nicola Walker’s return in BBC One’s The Split, we’ve got some news for you. It seems the show is going to have to wait as Nicola has a brilliant new friendship-testing Disney+ drama in the works, which goes by the name of Alice and Steve - and we’ll say it, it might even be better than The Split.
The series will plunge us into the world of Alice (Nicola Walker) and Steve (Jemaine Clement) whose friendship is put to the ultimate test when middle-aged Steve starts dating Alice’s 20-something daughter Izzy (Yali Topol Margalith). Sound like a recipe for disaster? Well, it is.
Lee Mason, Executive Director of Scripted at Disney+, says: “Get ready for a riotous mix of betrayal and revenge in a world of beautifully messy and flawed characters brilliantly created by Sophie Goodhart. We’re thrilled to be bringing this twisted and hilarious story to Disney+ audiences - masterfully brought to life by British acting legend Nicola Walker, as you’ve never seen her before, alongside New Zealand’s comic royalty, Jemaine Clement”.
Here's everything you need to know about Nicola’s return to our screens in Alice and Jack, including the plot, full cast and how to watch the series.
What is Alice and Steve about?
The six-part series will introduce us to lifelong best friends, Alice (Nicola Walker) and Steve (Jemaine Clement), whose world – and friendship – implodes when middle-aged Steve starts dating Alice’s 26-year-old daughter Izzy (Yali Topol Margalith).
Neither Alice nor Steve are strangers to chaos and dubious decision-making, but their once rock-solid friendship is turned upside down and pushed to its limits – threatening both their families and their futures.
According to the official synopsis, "Alice and Steve is a sophisticated, will they, won’t they anti-romantic comedy. Will Alice forgive Steve? Will Steve and Izzy make a relationship work? Will Alice and Steve ever be able to be friends again? Amongst all the questions hanging in the balance, one thing is certain; their lives will never be the same again."
Nicola Walkers, who plays Alice, says: "I'm thrilled to be stepping into the fabulous world of friendship, motherhood, marriage frantic revenge and fierce love that Sophie Goodhart has created, and to be doing it with Jemaine Clement is completely joyful!
Jemaine Clement, has also shared an insight into his character, Steve. "I really relate to Steve – he’s classy, stylish and an all-round good guy – except for when he isn’t," he says. "I’m excited to be working with the wonderful Nicola Walker and seeing how Steve and Alice’s relationship descends into absolute chaos."
