The smart new Apple TV+ drama revolves around a calculated plane crash that results in dangerous inmates being set free in the ultimate prison break - in Alaska, no less. And if the pictures and trailer are anything to go by, it looks to be our new favourite thriller.

Set against the stark, unforgiving backdrop of Alaska, the 10-part action-packed drama follows US marshal Frank Remnick (Jason Clarke), the lone law enforcement officer in an isolated town. When a plane full of violent inmates crashes in the remote wilderness, setting them free in the process, Remnick is tasked with protecting the community he’s meant to be keeping safe. And – as he comes to suspect – the crash was no accident, but the opening move in a chilling plan.

It’s a star-studded series, with The Gold’s Dominic Cooper appearing alongside Yellowjackets’ Simone Kessell and Catherine The Great actor Jason Clarke, so let's just say our expectations are high. What is The Last Frontier about?

Here’s the lowdown: coming to Apple TV+, The Last Frontier is set in the depths of the Alaskan wilderness, where a plane-load of dangerous prisoners are suddenly free after a mid-flight crash. Is it a terrible accident? Oh no.

We meet US marshal Frank Remnick (Jason Clarke) who's tasked with keeping his remote village safe amid chaos. And as time goes on, and things unravel, he begins to question: was the crash was accidental or – in fact – part of a bigger, more elaborate plan?

We don’t know how the full plot will pan out just yet, but Apple TV+ has shared: “The only thing scarier than a plane crash is a plane crash full of violent inmates.” In the teaser released for the series, we see dozens of orange jumpsuit-clad prisoners sitting in aisles, but one is kept alone from the others, with their head covered and headphones on – adding extra intrigue to the storyline.

We’re certainly expecting it to be. Apple TV+ has been releasing gold-standard TV lately, from the bone-chilling Severance to hilarious Hollywood satire The Studio and the beloved Slow Horses series. The cast of The Last Frontier, including Dominic Cooper, Simone Kessell and Jason Clarke, is fantastic, and there are some great creative minds involved too, as it’s been created by Jon Bokenkamp (The Blacklist) and Richard D’Ovidio (The Call).
