Murder, family secrets and a rugged Irish backdrop: that’s the gist of Irish Blood, a brand-new crime drama coming to Acorn TV. Starring Clueless actress Alicia Silverstone in a role that’s already drawing comparisons to The Split and Mare of Easttown, the terrific series revolves around a mind-blowing family revelation - and it's packed with emotional twists, dark intrigue and plenty of binge-worthy drama.

What’s it all about? Well, the six-part drama kicks off when a mysterious letter is sent to hot-shot Los Angeles divorce lawyer Fiona Sharpe (Alicia Silverstone) by her estranged father. Intrigued by its contents, Fiona sets off on a journey to Ireland to discover more about her past, uncovering secrets, lies and danger along the way. The question is, just how dark secrets will the secrets she unearths along the away be?

Filmed in and around Dublin, County Wicklow, Bray, and the Causeway coast in Northern Ireland, you can expect plenty of lush green Irish scenery amidst the story’s eery goings-on. While we patiently await the arrival of the series on our screens later this month, here’s everything to know about Irish Blood, including the cast, plot and how to watch it.

Firstly, it all sounds rather gripping. As we mentioned, the six-part murder mystery follows divorce lawyer Fiona Sharpe (Alicia Silverstone), who sets off on a journey to Ireland after getting a letter from her long-lost father, someone she hasn’t heard from in 30 years. There, she discovers the truth about why her dad seemingly abandoned both her and her mother on her 10th birthday.

According to the official synopsis, "she learns key truths about her father as well as a family that doesn’t know she exists, and, moreover, that the story of abandonment that has shaped her entire life – was a lie. A lie intended to protect her and her mother from her father’s shady business dealings. Fiona resolves to uncover the full truth about her father and reconnect with the parent she only thought she knew."

“You want my advice? Trust no one,” Silverstone says in the trailer, which you can watch below. Intrigued? Us too!

We'll share our official verdict when it lands on our screens, but we have a feeling the answer is going to be a resounding yes! Fans of Irish crime dramas, including Blue Lights, Kin and Dublin Murders, should definitely be excited for Irish Blood. It's also one for fans of The Split given there's a whip-smart divorce lawyer at the heart of it - but do be prepared that this series is a lot darker! With star of cult teen movie Clueless Alicia Silverstone in the lead role – and serving as executive producer – our expectations are particularly high. Her role in Irish Blood, as a top lawyer in LA who embarks on an emotional journey to hunt down her father, promises to be richly layered and incredibly compelling.
