Bergerac fans, take note! If you were one of the 1.8 million people in the UK who tuned into U&Drama's revived edition of the maverick detective series, you’ll be delighted to know that the impeccable reboot is returning for a second series with quite the cast. The brilliant Zoë Wanamaker, who appeared in Agatha Christie's Poirot, is returning as Bergerac’s mother-in-law, while Scott & Bailey’s Lesley Sharp is making her debut. Something tells us the new instalment is going to be even more watchable than the first!
If you’re not familiar with the beloved crime drama, or its 2025 reboot, the original series first graced screens in 1981. John Nettles solved crimes as the titular detective, while Irish actor Damien Molony (of The Split) has since taken over the wheel of that iconic red Triumph Roadster in the reboot. Only this time, the show is darker and more character-driven. Just like the original, however, Bergerac solves crimes on the picturesque isle of Jersey, and his struggles with alcoholism affect his abilities in his day job.
However, there are a few differences between the original and reboot. While the ‘80s Bergerac solved one case per episode, Molony’s version solves one across the entire series. The modern Bergerac is also widower, having lost his wife and having just been off on bereavement leave.
Now, the second series is shaping up to be even better than the first, with comedian Ade Edmonson joining as Nigel, a new love interest for Bergerac’s mother-in-law Charlie Hungerford (Wanamaker). Lesley Sharp, meanwhile, will play new character Monica. While we wait for the new series to arrive on our screens, here’s everything you need to know about Bergerac series 2, including the cast, plot, and how to watch it.
What is Bergerac about?
As we mentioned, U&Drama's Bergerac reboot centres around Jim Bergerac, a troubled detective within the fictional Bureau des Ètrangers, a special investigations unit on the island of Jersey. Blending scenic island backdrops with crime and Bergerac’s complicated personal life, the series has been hailed for its sun-soaked escapism. The revived version keeps the show's idyllic Jersey location and emotional undercurrent, while reimagining the series for a modern audience.
What will happen in Bergerac series 2?
Expect things to get a bit more personal for Bergerac, as he dips his toes into the dating pool after grieving his late wife. Series 2 will see him starting to put his life back together, while his mother-in-law Charlie Hungerford (Wanamaker) also has a new man in her life.
Excitingly, Bergerac meets Nicola (Camilla Beeput), a visitor to Jersey, and they connect. According to the official synopsis, however, "before the relationship even has time to blossom, Jim is pulled back into his next big case. When the groom at a wedding reception on the island is found murdered in his hotel room, the wedding party comes under intense suspicion and scrutiny."
It continues: "Jim will have to decipher the victim’s cryptic last words from his speech if he is ever going to bring the killer to justice. And when Jim starts to unravel old secrets, more skeletons come to light, making this his most intricate case yet."

Yes, the original is a much-loved staple of British TV, and the reboot has been a hit, too. It’s become the highest-rated series on U&Drama, and has broken records for the platform. While reboots of traditional shows are tough to get right, thanks to the nostalgia fans have for them, the 2025 Bergerac earned many fans who praised it for its emotional storytelling.
