GH cover star Sheridan Smith was a lady in red at the press launch of her latest drama, wearing crimson tailoring. Sheridan's latest series is a brilliant new ITV true crime drama, and the star was joined on the red carpet but the inspirational woman she plays in the show.

The new show, I Fought the Law, follows Ann Ming, who went through an incredible journey to finally see the man who murdered her daughter Julie brought to justice. Ann spent 15 years fighting to change the Double Jeopardy law and get the man who took her daughter's life put behind bars, following two mistrials. The ITV drama is based on Ann's book, For the Love of Julie in which she recounts her battle for justice, and Sheridan Smith will be starring as Ann in the ITV adaptation.

The four-part series is set to be a heart-breaking but brilliant watch, and its release was marked with a press launch at The Soho Hotel in London on Tuesday (29 July) at which Sheridan was joined by Ann.

Sheridan revealed that Ann saw of photo of her during a scene in a cemetery and said that 'she didn’t recall having that picture taken. It was brilliant for me because she thought I was her, which is what we want.'

Talking about how Sheridan had embodied her for the role, Ann said, 'The way she held herself was uncanny. Even her accent is very similar to mine. I’m really pleased.”
