If you’re a fan of Big Little Lies, you probably love gripping stories about female friendships and buried secrets - and the good news is, we've just found another brilliant series that's just as good as Reese Witherspoon's hit drama. One Night is the compelling thriller coming to ITV that has all the makings of the perfect summer binge. The series stars Broadchurch’s Jodie Whittaker and centres around a traumatic night, which has all but shattered a bond between three childhood friends. As the past catches up with them, the trio relive traumatic memories and face previously repressed emotions head-on.

The six-part hidden gem was originally released on Paramount+ in 2023, but is now coming to ITV and will be available to watch this August. Created and written by the award-winning Emily Ballou (The Slap, Taboo) and directed by Catherine Millar (The Twelve, The Secrets She Keeps) as well as Lisa Matthews (Doctor Doctor, The PM’s Daughter), it's just the sort of thrilling watch we need right now.

What is One Night about?

The series focuses on three women – formerly childhood close friends – who all reunite in their small coastal hometown after years spent living separate lives. When one of them, an aspiring novelist, anonymously publishes a book about a traumatic night they shared two decades ago, it becomes a surprise overnight success.

Who’s in the cast of One Night?

As we mentioned, Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker plays a starring role as Tess – having just appeared in Netflix smash Toxic Town, and recently landed a role in the forthcoming BBC adaptation of the hit stage show Dear England. Whittaker’s friends in One Night are played by Nicole da Silva (Wentworth, Rush), as Simone, and Orange is the New Black’s Yael Stone as Hat.
