Myleene Klass has been enjoying a much-deserved celebration after being awarded an MBE by The King, for services to women’s health, miscarriage awareness and charity. Myleene received the honour at Windsor Castle on Wednesday (16 July).
Myleene brought her son, Apollo, as her guest, who came suited and booted in a pink tie and navy suit to support his mum. Myleene described it as ‘the most magical, unforgettable day’ and said she was ‘utterly overjoyed and humbled’ to be honoured in this way.
‘Having my family there and our rainbow baby boy was extra magical in what has at times been a very dark journey for us all,’ she wrote in a personal message on Instagram. ‘Before this and my (Bafta-nominated) documentary Myleene Klass: Miscarriage And Me, it did feel like no one really mentioned the dark secret of miscarriage, the shame, the taboo – now, it’s said loudly in the walls of the Palace and around Westminster.’
Myleene revealed that she had spoken personally to The King about ‘the bereavement leave we have just secured with @miscarriageassociation @sarahowenmp @oliviablake_mp and the fact no one would wait for three consecutive heart attacks before receiving medical intervention, yet women are expected to wait for three miscarriages before help.’
According to Myleene, ‘he looked surprised that this was the case and then completely agreed. He was equally surprised to hear in this country there is NO official MC data collected, which is what I’m aiming to work on next with @tommys. He expressed his wish for the number currently at 20,000 per month (an educated guess as we have no aforementioned data) to “hopefully come down”.’
Myleene received her honour at Windsor Castle alongside an unexpected musical companion, who was also being recognised. Former X Factor star Leona Lewis joined Myleene at the castle to receive an OBE for her services to music. The pair were photographed laughing and smiling together in the grounds of the castle, displaying their awards for the cameras.
For the special occasion, Myleene wore all-white tailoring, opting for a two-piece suit over a blouse. Nodding to the royal formality of the day, she finished her look with a bow and mesh fascinator. At a party to mark the moment at Gymkhana London afterwards, Myleene was snapped holding Apollo and grinning, wearing her accolade pinned to her lapel (top photograph).
