The Princess of Wales looked impossibly elegant as she stepped out for an important state visit on Tuesday (8 July). Kate wore an all-pink ensemble which would give even Barbie a run for her money, thanks to the full skirt, tailored jacket and co-ordinating hat.
The Princess of Wales joined Prince William at RAF Northolt to greet the French President Macron and his wife Brigitte, as they disembarked their plane. The group then joined a carriage procession through Windsor, with President Macron sitting alongside The King and Brigitte with The Queen. The Prince and Princess were in another carriage, also within the procession.
To mark the beginning of the important state visit, Kate opted for Dior with a matching single-breasted jacket, which she paired with a dusty pink tulle skirt and ribboned hat worn slightly to one side. Even the Princess’ shoes were colour-coordinated, for a head-to-toe pink look.
Kate accessorised her outfit with a necklace made up of three strings of pearls and a set of pearl earrings. This look was a favourite of the late Queen Elizabeth II, who wore a triple pearl necklace gifted by her grandfather, King George V, with a pair of pearl and diamond studs to many of her public engagements. The studs were known as the Queen Mary button earrings and Her Majesty inherited them from her grandmother.
It may be that Kate is wearing the very same necklace, or simply giving a nod to her classic look with her own jewellery choices. While the Queen Mary button earrings sit on the lobe of the ear, Kate’s pearl earrings are in a droplet style, although also studded with a diamond.
President Macron will be in the UK for a three-day state visit, meeting with the Prime Minister and government as well as the Royal Family.
