If there’s one print that reigns supreme at Wimbledon – especially when it comes to the Royal Family – it’s polka dots. While florals and pinstripes are reliable favourites we see time and time again, it’s the classic dots that are the most favoured. The Princess of Wales, for instance, has worn polka dots on five occasions at Wimbledon (making it her most-worn style at the annual event) while this week (Monday 7 July), Alex Jones wore the pattern when she opted for a stylish Rixo dress.
Now, the Duchess of Edinburgh has arrived at Wimbledon for day 8 of The Championships in a similar navy dress which, at first glance, appears to feature a polka dot print. On closer inspection, however, the dots are actually a twist on the classic pattern with tiny white flowers dotted over the fabric. The switch adds a modern twist to the maxi dress, as does the asymmetric hemline.
Sophie’s dress is by Proenza Schouler and is usually £1,145, but it has been reduced by half price to £540 at Mytheresa. Plus, the website states there’s an extra 20% off available at checkout, which could reduce the price to around £450. However, stock is running low on the Alina Floral Maxi Dress and some sizes are already sold out.
Or, if it’s Alex Jones’ navy polka dot dress you’re most taken with, you can find that still in stock online, too:
The Duchess used a clever trick to transform her outfit between two events today, as she spent the morning at an important memorial service at St Paul’s Cathedral to mark 20 years since the 7/7 attacks in London. At the service, Sophie wore a deep navy blazer, which she swapped out for a crisp white alternative when she arrived at Wimbledon, to seamlessly transition between the events.
While the Princess of Wales has not yet attended Wimbledon this year, her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, did arrive to enjoy the tennis on the same day at Sophie.
The Championships 2025 takes place from Monday 30 June to Sunday 13 July at the All England Lawn and Tennis Club in Wimbledon, London.
