It’s been four long years since Line of Duty’s AC-12 graced our screens and while series 7 is, according to star Martin Compston, “way off”, we do have some news that will please fans everywhere. Creator Jed Mercurio has a brand-new Netflix crime thriller in the works, otherwise known as Trinity - and the 5-star drama (wait until you hear the details) is what we’re going to call the next Line of Duty.
Starring Bodyguard’s Richard Madden and Surface’s Gugu Mbatha-Raw, the series follows heroic female Naval Officer, Katherine Decker, who becomes involved with Secretary of Defense, Webb Preston, a man charismatic man who it seems might actually be at the heart of a dangerous conspiracy. Jed is serving as writer, executive producer and showrunner on the series – and if his previous dramas, Line of Duty and Bodyguard are anything to go by, we’re in for a quite a treat.
Sound tempting? Ahead of Trinity’s arrival on our screens, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming series, including the plot, cast and how to watch it.
What is Trinity about?
As we mentioned, the eight-part series comes from Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio and follows a valiant naval officer Commander Katherine Decker (played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw) whose newfound connection with the Secretary of Defense Webb Preston (Richard Madden) catapults her into a world of political intrigue.
Katherine serves as second-in-command on the USS Kansas, a nuclear submarine and one of the deadliest weapons on Earth, while Webb has a technology background that makes him different from most politicians.
According to Netflix, Webb’s innovation and purpose are seen as a threat in more ways than one. And while to Katherine, he appears outwardly charismatic, she soon discovers that he may be at the heart of a dangerous conspiracy. It’s safe to say we can expect a very dangerous liaison indeed.
Who’s in the cast of Trinity?
The 5-star cast of Trinity includes:
- Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Surface) as Commander Katherine Decker
- Richard Madden (Bodyguard, Citadel) as Secretary of Defense Webb Preston
We’re expecting further cast to be announced shortly, so watch this space for more news as we have it.
How can I watch Trinity?
Netflix hasn’t yet shared a release date for Trinity, but with the series having only just been announced, we’d expect it to arrive on our screens at some point in 2026. As soon as we have a confirmed date, we’ll share it here.
What other Jed Mercurio shows can I watch now?
As we mentioned, Jed Mercurio is the mastermind behind hit BBC police drama Line of Duty and all six series are currently available to stream in BBC iPlayer. He’s also the genius behind Bodyguard, which saw troubled war veteran David Budd assigned as the bodyguard for the Home Secretary, the Right Honourable Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes). If you haven’t seen it, we’d recommend catching up on Netflix as soon as you can.
