The new Death in Paradise: Hotel Costiera is the “exhilarating” Italy-set crime drama to shake up your summer

If your budget can’t quite stretch to the stunning shoreline of the Amalfi coast this summer, fear not, as an exhilarating new Prime Video crime drama will transport you to one of Italy’s most beautiful settings instead. Hotel Costiera is what we're calling the new Death In Paradise - and it's set to seriously shake up your summer.

The drama centres around former US marine, Daniel De Luca, played by Grey’s Anatomy’s Jesse Williams, who takes up a new role as a "fixer" in a luxury hotel – the eponymous Hotel Costiera – in Positano, but soon finds that he needs to call on some of the skills he learned in his old job when a young girl is kidnapped. Written by Elena Bucaccio, Matthew Parkhill and Francesco Arlanch, the series was shot in Italy last year and, very excitingly, is due to arrive on our screens very soon.

What is Hotel Costiera about?

The six-part series focuses on Daniel De Luca (Jesse Williams), a half-Italian, former US marine who returns to Italy, where he grew up, as a fixer in one of the world’s most luxurious hotels, located on the spectacular coastline of Positano.

In addition to dealing with the hotel's wealthy guests’ problems – very The White Lotus – Daniel is also on the trail of Alice, one of the owner's daughters who disappeared a month earlier. Daniel must do everything he can to bring her home, but facing those who kidnapped the girl will be more challenging than any problem Daniel has ever faced.

In keeping with the luxury Italian setting, the series was premiered in Sicily’s Taormina Film Festival, where part of the first episode was screened in an ancient Greek amphitheatre, with Mount Etna in the distance.

Who's starring in Hotel Costiera?

Landing Jesse Williams, who plays the starring role of Daniel “DD” De Luca was a real coup, said Hotel Costiera director, ​​Adam Bernstein: “It’s an amazing opportunity for me to work with Jesse Williams on Costiera. I’ve always admired his work – both on stage and screen, and he’s the first actor that came to my mind for the role of Daniel De Luca. Jesse provides a perfect combination of intelligence, charisma, and humour, and we’re incredibly lucky to have him at the centre of our show.’’
