His grisly gangster drama, MobLand, might have taken the streaming world by storm, with a record-breaking 2.2 million global viewers on release, but it’s time for the series to stand down as Guy Ritchie is bringing us a brand-new series set to steal the glory. Introducing Young Sherlock, the explosive new Prime Video series directed and executive produced by Ritchie and starring none of than our favourite Mr Darcy, Colin Firth.

No stranger to Sherlock Holmes projects, Ritchie has previously directed two films about the famous detective, but this time round, the focus is on a 19-year-old Sherlock who finds himself entangled in a murder at Oxford that jeopardises his freedom. With Hero Fiennes Tiffin starring in the titular role and Firth playing Sir Bucephalus Hodge, it’s got smash hit series written all over it.

What is Young Sherlock about?

The new eight-part series is inspired by Andy Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes novels and will tell the origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective Sherlock Holmes. Described by Prime Video as “an irreverent, action-packed” story, we’ll meet Sherlock, played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin, at the age of 19.

Disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. According to the official synopsis, “Diving into his first-ever case with a wild lack of discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever.”

“In Young Sherlock we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before,” Guy Ritchie has said. “We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love."
