The Duchess of Edinburgh celebrated a very special occasion this week – her 26th year of marriage to Prince Edward. The royal couple spent the day celebrating together at Royal Ascot on Thursday (19 June) and Sophie chose the perfect gown for the occasion.
The Duchess turned to one of her favourite designers and wore a long-sleeve silk dress by Suzannah London – the ‘Veronique’ Full Length Silk Tea Dress. The midaxi-length dress is the ideal choice as the base colour (white) is a subtle nod to the wedding-related personal occasion, while the green-flecked print shifts it away from feeling too bridal. The clover pattern is a fresh and summery design, making it the perfect choice for Sophie’s third day at Ascot racecourse.
On day three, Sophie rode in a carriage side-by-side with Princess Anne, who wore a blue ensemble and veil. Multiple members of the Royal Family have attended every day of Ascot so far, and Sophie has leaned on the same designer for each of her looks.
On the first day of Ascot this year, she wore a sheer layered dress with appliqué daisies, which was a reworn choice and by Suzannah London. This was actually the dress she chose for her anniversary last year – a milestone occasion at 25 years, making it her silver wedding anniversary with Prince Edward. The couple also spent that anniversary at Ascot, making the event a somewhat personal, as well as royal, tradition for them.
Those who have also been attending this year’s event include The King and Queen, Princess Anne and her daughter Zara Tindall, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and The Prince of Wales. The Princess of Wales did not attend this year, but her mum Carole Middleton joined in the action alongside the rest of the family.
It’s been a busy month for the royals alongside Ascot, with Saturday’s Trooping of the Colour to mark The King’s official birthday before the Order of the Garter on Monday.
