The royal family has no shortage of family jewels, and favourite pieces are frequently passed between the women of the family which often hold sentimental meanings or hidden connections. Now, it's Princess Charlotte's turn to be entrusted with a special piece of jewellery, which she wore at the Trooping of the Colour parade on Saturday (14 June).
Princess Charlotte took part in the official parade, riding in a carriage alongside the Princess of Wales before taking to the balcony of Buckingham Palace alongside her parents, her brothers Princes George and Louis, and The King and Queen. The young princess wore a delicate diamond brooch on her turquoise dress which was shaped as a small horseshoe.
The horseshoe brooch was previously owned by Princess Charlotte's great great grandmother, The Queen Mother. Queen Elizabeth II inherited the piece and gifted it to Princess Charlotte, who wore it to her great grandmother's funeral in 2022, paying subtle tribute to her memory.
At the weekend's Trooping of the Colour parade, Princess Charlotte and mum Kate were in co-ordinating outfits, both wearing blue dresses finished with white banding. While the Princess of Wales opted for a matching hat and intricate up do, Princess Charlotte wore her hair in a neat plait finished with a white bow at the back. As the family left the balcony, a cheeky Prince Louis can be seen turning back to wave at the crowds.
The Prince and Princess of Wales shared clips from the special day to their official instagram account, drawing attention to the 'Over 1,000 soldiers, around 200 horses and approximately 300 musicians came together in a display of Military precision, horsemanship and fanfare to mark The King’s official birthday.'
There was also an official fly past from the RAF red arrows who were 'flying for the first time with a mix of sustainable aviation fuel.'
