Crime drama fans, listen up! There’s a nerve-frazzling new series coming to Channel 4 that you need to know about. Pale Mountains is the addictive new drama that went down a storm with viewers when it aired in Italy and the US – and now, at last, the series is about to be available to stream in the UK.
The creepy Italy-set crime drama centres around the return of a serial killer that shakes the city of Bolzano to its core. Eva Kofler (Elena Radonicich) is the tortured detective who’s determined to catch him – and, as you’ve probably learned by now, no serial killer case is simple, especially not this one.

What is Pale Mountains about?
The four-part series is set in Bolzano, Southern Tyrol and will introduce us to Eva Kofler, a young and ambitious (see also: troubled) German-speaking assistant DA, who’s thrust into a chilling case when a murder points to the return of the infamous and ruthless Monster of Bolzano. Bolzano is a city straddling two cultures, two languages and two identities.
On one side, the German-speaking citizens, precise, disciplined, and prosperous. On the other, you've got the passionate Italians, loud, vibrant, and fiery. Both, however, are shaken to their core when a serial killer known as the Monster resurfaces – who is seemingly targeting German-speaking victims.
To make matters even more challenging for Eva, her colleagues doubt her ability to manage the case and decide to bring in Paolo Costa, a tormented Italian detective with a personal vendetta. Paolo lost his leg and his girlfriend trying to catch the killer in the past, and he’s never been able to move on the from case. In fact, it’s become something of an obsession.
The question is, can Eva and Paolo put their personal differences to one side and work together on the most challenging investigation of their careers? And can they catch this monstrous killer once and for all? Something tells us we’re going to be on the edge of our seats…

Is Pale Mountains any good?
Yes – when Pale Mountains aired in Italy last year, it gripped audiences, receiving rave reviews across the board. Earlier this year, the series premiered in the US and Canada and the response was just as positive, with critics calling it “absolutely gripping” and “a must-watch”.

All four episodes will be available to watch on Channel 4 streaming from Friday 13th June. Channel 4 will also broadcast the first episode on Monday 16th June.
