The Queen stepped out for a special floral event this week, and we couldn't help but notice that her outfit looked very similar to one of The Princess of Wales' trademark looks. For her visit to the British Flowers Week exhibition, Queen Camilla wore a navy midi dress in Kate's favourite print - polka dots.
The Queen was visiting the new exhibition at the garden museum which includes 'six immersive floral installations and celebrates local, British-cut flowers' explained the Royal Family. While there, she also 'joined school children to learn more about the biology of the tea plant and how to make herbal tea bags.'
For the visit, Queen Camilla opted for a long sleeve, midi shirt dress (a style favoured by many royal family members including Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh), featuring a statement white collar which offset the polka dot print.
The Princess of Wales regularly wears polka dot print pieces. In 2019, Kate chose a similar navy polka dot look with a contrasting white collar when she visited the 'D-Day: Interception, Intelligence, Invasion' exhibition at Bletchley Park. Polka dots were also her choice for the 2021 service of thanksgiving for the life of the late Prince Philip.
In fact, polka dot print is her most frequently-worn pattern for attending Wimbledon. For day 14 of the tennis tournament in 2022, Kate wore a very similar navy polka dot dress to Queen Camilla's, which was by Alessandra Rich. The year before, she wore an almost identical skirt by the same designer.
Also at Wimbledon in 2022 - this time on day 9 - Kate again went for blue but in a lighter and brighter shade, with another dress by Alessandra Rich. Back in 2018, she leaned on a different favourite royal designer, Jenny Packham, wearing a white dress with striped polka dots. Perhaps her boldest look, however, was in 2017 when she opted for a black and white Dolce and Gabbana piece with much bolder spots for a more modern feel.
Polka dots may be a royal favourite (worn by everyone from the Duchess of Edinburgh to the late Princess Diana), but you don't need designer brands and custom-made piece to achieve a similar regal feel. These are some of our favourite picks on the high street to channel to same look:
Following the Queen's visit to the Garden Museum, she joined an event for The Big Lunch, an organisation for which she is patron. 'The Queen has joined people and projects from Tower Hamlets to celebrate the partnership between the @EdenProjectCornwall and @CanaryWharfLondon to transform Middle Dock into Eden Dock - a vibrant, biodiverse space which hosts community events,' explained the Royal Family in a social media post.
