There’s nothing quite like a psychological thriller to help you escape the daily grind and Netflix is bringing us a new one that promises to do exactly that. Based on Melanie Raabe’s 2015 novel of the same name, which has been called “a masterclass in psychological thrillers”, The Trap is the twisty new drama that will enter you into a maddening mind game that you just can’t get enough of.

Netflix has descried the show as “a complex web of deception and truth, about a murder for which almost anyone could be the killer” – only the woman at the centre of the series, Lisa Konrad (Friederike Becht), believes she knows the man who did it. Having been housebound for the best part of 10 years, one fateful day, she thinks she identifies her sister’s killer on TV – and now, she must get him.

With filming on the series currently underway, here's everything you need to know ahead of The Trap's arrival on our screens, including the cast, plot and how to watch it.

What to read next

What is The Trap about?

The series is being brought to us by the creators of the Netflix series, Dear Child. If you haven't seen Dear Child, it's a German thriller based on a novel by Romy Hausmann and follows a woman and her daughter who are found after being struck by a car in a forest. It turns out the pair have escaped from their adductor’s captivity and leads investigators to unravel a 13-year-old missing persons case.

This time round, the team have set their sights on Melanie Raabe’s 2015 novel, The Trap. The six-part TV adaptation will introduce us to author Lisa Konrad (Friederike Becht), who hasn’t left her house in nearly ten years, ever since she witnessed the murder of her sister Anna. But when she believes she recognises the killer on television, she sets out to trap him - using herself as the bait. The question is: is this man really the killer?

Who’s in the cast of The Trap?

The cast of The Trap includes:

  • Friederike Becht as author Lisa Konrad
  • Hans Löw as journalist Robert Lenze
  • Matthias Brandt as publisher Norbert Rudow
  • Miriam Ohlmeyer as Sophie
  • Josephine Thiesen as Lisa Konrad’s sister Anna
  • Malaya Stern Takeda as Lisa’s assistant Yuma

Is Melanie Raabe’s book any good?

Yes – if you’re a Harlan Coben fan, we’d highly recommend Melanie’s twist-filled psychological thriller. Critics have called it a “masterclass in psychological thrillers”, “original and exciting” and “a definite winner”.

How can I watch The Trap?
