If you found yourself hopelessly addicted to Guy Ritchie’s Paramount+ series, MobLand recently, we’re about to give you something even better to watch. Say hello to The Gentleman, Ritchie’s other crime drama that even MobLand can’t rival. Production has just started on a second instalment of the hit crime drama - and, rather excitingly, a genius new cast is on board.

The drama is a spin-off series to Ritchie’s 2019 film about an English aristocrat (played by Theo James) who finds himself embroiled in a world of criminality - specifically Bobby Glass’ (Ray Winstone) cannabis empire on the East End of London – and the first series was nothing short of exceptional. Series 2, however, is about to top it, with the likes of Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville and stars of Conclave, The Leopard and Dune joining the cast.

Ahead of its eagerly awaited arrival, here's everything you need to know about The Gentlemen series 2, including the plot, new cast and how to watch it.

What to read next

What is The Gentlemen about?

As we mentioned, the series is a spin-off of the Guy Ritchie film of the same name. In series 1, we were introduced to former Army officer, Eddie (Theo James), who became the new Duke of Halstead following his father’s death. Eddie also inherited the family’s sizable country estate - and the illegal weed farm located underneath it, run by the sophisticated yet ruthless Susie (Kaya Scodelario) and her crime boss father Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone).

While Eddie was hesitant to join the criminal lifestyle at first, he quickly developed a taste for it, finding an unexpected ally in Susie as they faced down the UK and Europe’s most notorious - and hilarious - gangster families. By the end of the first series, Eddie had successfully solidified himself as co-owner of the Glasses’ huge weed empire, alongside Susie and Bobby.

What will happen in The Gentlemen series 2?

The new series will see the return of Theo James as Eddie and Kaya Scodelario as Susie. According to Netflix, when we meet them again, it’s been one year since they joined forces to work together in Bobby’s criminal empire overseas.

The official synopsis continues: “As they drive to expand their enterprise, the decisions Bobby is making seem to be increasingly unsound. Now Eddie and Susie must decide whether to take action or risk losing it all, but unfettered ambition never ends well…”

Guy Ritchie, who's returning to direct and will co-write the series with Matthew Read, has shared a bit more of an insight into what’s in store. “I am delighted to return to set for season two of The Gentlemen. This chapter sees a deliberate expansion, both geographically and thematically, as we journey from the English countryside to the Italian lakes,” he says.

“Eddie and Susie find themselves navigating an increasingly volatile empire as they’re besieged on all fronts by an influx of enigmatic new players. The stakes are heightened, the power dynamics are more precarious, and I’m thrilled to be collaborating once again with this exceptional cast and crew.”
