If the idea of ending a long day in front a good crime drama is your idea of heaven, we’ve got some very exciting news for you. There’s an unmissable new series coming to our screens very soon and it goes by the name of Countdown. Featuring a mysterious murder and an epic race against time, we've officially found your next binge-watch.

The Prime Video series will introduce us to LAPD detective Mark Meachum (Jensen Ackles), who finds himself on a secret task force investigating the shocking death of an officer within the Department of Homeland Security. As the hunt for the killer gets underway, it quickly becomes apparent that more lives are in danger… a lot more.

With the series due to arrive on our screens next month, here’s everything you need to know ahead of its arrival, including the cast, plot and release date.

What is Countdown about?

The 13-part series stars Jensen Ackles as Mark Meachum, an LAPD detective who’s recruited to a secret task force alongside undercover agents from various branches of United States law enforcement. They’re tasked with investigating the death of an officer within the Department of Homeland Security, who’s been murdered in broad daylight.

Their task, we'll soon realise, is far from straightforward. Quite the opposite, in fact. According to the official synopsis, "The hunt for the killer soon uncovers a plot far more sinister than anyone could have imagined, kicking off a race against time to save a city of millions."

Jensen Ackles, who plays Mark Meachum, has shared a taste of what we can expect from the show, telling Men’s Health: "The camerawork is mostly handheld which gives the show a lot of energy. It’s high energy, high stakes, and there’s a lot of momentum that pushes each episode.”

He also shared details of the training he underwent to prepare for the part. "I like to make sure I’m in shape for the long hours and stunt work," he said. "I did do some brush-up on my firearms training; in fact, we went to a training facility in California where Keanu Reeves does his gun training for John Wick."
