What happens when the tables get turned on an expert in deception? That’s the premise of Rabbit Hole, the espionage series starring Kiefer Sutherland, which is coming to ITV. The show, which was first released on Paramount+ in 2023 has been described as "the ultimate spy thriller" – and we can confirm that it’s spectacularly good.

Sutherland plays the magnetic lead, John Weir, a powerful spy whose authority – and potentially life – is taken away from him when he’s framed for murder. The 24 actor told UPI: "He lives in a world of manipulation and, In a matter of moments, he goes from the hunter to the hunted, makes 180-degree shift and literally is being out-scammed to the degree that he is literally fighting for his life and has to do everything to not only protect himself, but also the people he cares about."

If you're a fan of Slow Horses - or indeed spy thrillers full stop, you'll want to add Rabbit Hole to your watch list immediately. But before you tune in, here's everything you need to know about the series, including the plot, cast and how to watch it.

What is Rabbit Hole about?

The eight-part series stars Kiefer Sutherland as John Weir, a corporate espionage expert who's adept at deception and destroying people’s lives. The tables are about to turn however as he finds himself caught up in a major conspiracy that threatens everything.

Suddenly, Weir finds himself being framed for murder by powerful forces who have the ability to influence and control populations. Cue the start of a gripping cat-and-mouse game as he fights for his freedom.

The series sees Sutherland, who played Jack Bauer in the hit US series 24, return to his action roots – but, as you may already have gathered, there’s a lot more to the series than action. Weir might be a skilled swindler, but he also has a paranoid disposition and a traumatic past, which play out in interesting fashion.

Speaking of how his characters goes from being in a position of great power to finding himself in extreme danger, Sutherland told UPI: "Once that character has been exposed and been made vulnerable, it's very easy for an audience to identify with that character and then attach themselves to that character. It's just something that I've been aware of in my career that those are great opportunities."
