If you tuned into ITV’s impossibly addictive crime drama Joan last year, you’ll already have witnessed Sophie Turner’s sheer brilliance as diamond thief Joan Hannington. If you haven’t, the good news is that there’s another chance to do so as the Game of Thrones star has landed a brand-new role in another nail-biting drama. Haven is the Prime Video series with a daring pension heist (and Sophie Turner) at the heart of it – and it’ll steal every ounce of your attention.
The contemporary heist thriller sees Turner step into the shoes of Zara, an employee at a pension fund investment company whose day is about to get a serious shake up. When a gang of thieves bursts in and forces her to help steal billions of pounds of people’s pensions, life takes a rather unexpected – and dangerous - turn.
While we await the arrival of the gripping new series on our screens, here’s everything you need to know about it, including the full plot, cast and how you can watch it.
What is Haven about?
As we mentioned, the series will introduce us to Zara (Sophie Turner), an office worker at Lochmill Capital, a pension fund investment company, who is happily going about her day. That is, until a gang of violent thieves bursts in, forcing her and her best friend Luke (Archie Madekwe) to execute their demands, which involves helping them to steal a huge sum of money.
Jacob Fortune-Lloyd plays DCI Rhys, a detective who's determined to uncover who would steal billions of pounds of ordinary people’s pensions - and why they'd do it. He’s also struggling with his recent relapse as a gambling addict however, and he must keep his money problems at bay while dealing with the secret agendas and competing interests at the centre of the crime.
The series marks the screenwriting debut of crime novelist S.A. Nikias, with I May Destroy You director Sam Miller helming the first three episodes and serving as executive producer. Drama Republic's Rebecca de Souza and Greg Brenman have said they were "astonished" by Nikias' debut script. "His rollercoasting, nail-biting and funny scripts have quite rightly attracted a tremendous cast and top-tier creative team. We couldn’t be more delighted," they said.
According to Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios, "This attention-grabbing series, written by S.A. Nikias, is a uniquely thrilling ride. Haven, shepherded by the fantastic team at Drama Republic, with the wonderful Sam Miller set to direct, and starring the incredibly talented Sophie Turner, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, and Archie Madekwe has all the ingredients for a gripping, addictive, entertaining story for our global customers to enjoy."
