Have you ever thought about (see also: had nightmares about) what would happen if your child was involved in a terrifying abduction? How about if you were at the scene of the incident and accused of the crime itself? Those are the themes of Suspicion, the hugely underrated crime drama coming to ITV imminently – and we’d recommend you put it at the top of your watch list immediately.

The series was originally released on Apple TV+ in 2022 but, likely due to its brilliant cast (Uma Thurman, no less) and compelling plot, ITVX has now snapped it up. Centred around the kidnapping and subsequent disappearance of US businesswoman Katherine Newman’s (Uma Thurman) son Leonardo and the five ordinary British citizens who happened to be in the hotel on the night of his abduction, it’s the sort of show that will make you question absolutely everything.

Ahead of the show's arrival on our screens, here's everything you need to know about it, including the plot, cast and how to watch it.

What is Suspicion about?

The eight-part abduction drama revolves around the kidnapping and subsequent disappearance of American businesswoman Katherine Newman’s (Uma Thurman) son Leonardo. Leonardo was kidnapped from a New York hotel and the eye of suspicion quickly falls on five seemingly ordinary British citizens who were at the hotel on the night in question.

The five people – three men and two women - find themselves in a trans-Atlantic cat and mouse race to evade the combined forces of the National Crime Agency and the FBI to prove their innocence. And it soon becomes apparent that not everyone can be trusted. The question is: who is really behind the mysterious abduction, and who’s simply guilty of being in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Giving a few more clues about the series (no spoilers though), Uma told Entertainment Tonight: “The conflict that the character [Katherine Newman] has is the unthinkable, right? It’s the unimaginable. In fact, as an actor, sometimes you borrow from your real life. I couldn’t bring myself to borrow really from my own life. It’s too horrifying to imagine being blackmailed through damage, risk, or injury to your child.”

Is Suspicion any good?

Yes - although it's one of those series that's very much underrated. It’s an easy binge due to the fact that it deals with a terrible situation any of us could - and would hate to - find ourselves in. Our only complaint is that we don’t see as much of Uma Thurman in it as we’d like – oh, and the fact that Apple TV+, the streamer behind the show, didn’t renew it for a second series!
