Suranne Jones is easily one of the best actors to come out of a soap (Coronation Street, if you’re currently racking your brains) and, thankfully, the roles keep on coming. Her latest must-see part is in the BBC’s beyond brilliant drama, Film Club, which Suranne has described as "a beautifully honest" series with a love story at the centre of it - and it will instantly steal your heart.

Written by The White Lotuss Aimee Lou Wood and House of the Dragon’s Ralph Davis (who also star), the series will introduce us to young agoraphobic woman, Evie (Aimee Lou Wood), who starts a film club in her garage. Her best friend, Noa (Nabhaan Rizwan), is one of the few people who still turns up, but when he gets a job on the other side of the country, it will make – or break – this love story.

The BBC has called the rom-com a "witty and emotional show about love and family, about whether we should follow our hearts or heads, and being in love with a friend" - and we've no doubt it'll be quite the emotional watch. With the series set to air on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer later this year, here’s everything you need to know ahead of its arrival, including the plot, cast and how to watch it.

What is Film Club about?

The six-part drama will introduce us to agoraphobic Evie (Aimee Lou Wood), who hasn’t left the house in six months after a "wobble". Film Club, however, is her escape - a weekly chance to create a world of wonder, deck the garage out in whatever the film calls for and spend a few hours with her best friend, Noa (Nabhaan Rizwan), one of the few mates who still shows up.

Things are about to change though, because Noa has got some major news. He’s been offered his dream job, which is taking him to the other side of the country. According to the official synopsis, it means that "all of this is ending. That reality is hitting. That they’re going to be forced to consider for the first time they might be more than just friends. Neither of them are the best when it comes to emotions but this time those emotions might be impossible to ignore.

“As if life weren’t challenging enough already, Evie is going to be navigating this amongst the eccentricity of her family home - living with her fiercely loving single mum Suz (Suranne Jones), sister Izzie (Liv Hill), and handsome boyfriend/sometime man of the house Josh (Adam Long).”

Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, says: “We’re so happy to welcome Nabhaan, Suranne and this incredibly exciting cast. Aimee and Ralph’s heartwarming, feel-good and utterly charming scripts have made Film Club a hot ticket for BBC viewers and we can’t wait for it to arrive.”

Suranne Jones says: "I’ve loved Aimee for a while now and think she is a beautifully real, honest and brilliantly funny talent, so it was no surprise the script she and Ralph Davis have created was the same. It’s smart, sweet and punchy. I can’t wait to be her tiger mum... and I get to film in my hometown too."

The series marks Aimee Lou Wood’s screenwriting debut, a huge milestone in her career, which has just seen her recently star in Sky’s The White Lotus. “‘It’s all been so much bigger and more abundant and overwhelming than I ever thought it would be,’ the 31-year-old told Elle recently of her career.
