We've all got that one holiday that we fantasise about going on - but what happens when your dream trip turns into a living nightmare? That’s the theme of Two Weeks in August, the BBC’s new drama about a holiday you certainly won't envy. In fact, it'll take you on a trip that's unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.

The series follows a group of friends who head off to Greece for a trip they hope will fix all their problems. That's what holidays are for, right? Only an illicit kiss turns this trip very sour - and when the group discover they’re trapped on the island, things quickly spiral from bad to worse.

With filming on the series currently underway, here’s everything you need to know about the drama, including the plot, cast and expected release.

What is Two Weeks in August about?

The eight-part Greece-set series follows a group of friends who reunite for a summer holiday. Zoe (Jessica Raine) is a woman pulled in every direction and hopes this will be the holiday – and tonic - that she and her family, including her troubled husband Dan (Damien Molony) need. Only it’s not quite that simple.

Zoe does indeed rediscover the joy in her life, but while "lost" in paradise, she also shares an illicit kiss that turns her dream trip into a nightmare. According to the official synopsis, "Zoe begins to act on her deepest desires and the holiday she hoped for becomes a reckoning for a group of adults who refuse to grow up.

"When they discover they are trapped on the island, and become faced with real life-or-death situations, the group soon turn on each other to find out who is to blame. Is Zoe responsible for the drama and destruction around her or, as heaven turns to hell, are bigger forces at play?"

Jessica Raine says of the series: “Catherine’s scripts reeled me in from the first page. Epic and nuanced. Funny and tragic. I’m honoured to be playing Zoe in this simply brilliant story.”

Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, has said there’s no better cast to bring the series to life. “You might not want to find yourselves on holiday with this group of characters, but watching their reunion unfold across eight sun-soaked episodes will be irresistible,” she says.
