There's a brand new ITV crime drama, Death at the White Hart coming from the creator of the iconic crime thriller Broadchurch, and it's being billed as a "cliff-hanger packed murder mystery”.
Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall has written a new murder mystery novel, out this month, which ITV has already commissioned as an exciting crime thriller series.
In a release, ITV said that, “Death at The White Hart is a finely crafted and epically executed story with a host of unforgettable characters and story twists" and praised Chris, saying he "is one of the UK's leading storytellers".
Here's everything we know about the enticing new show so far...
What is Death at the White Hart about?
The new show will be based on Chris Chibnall's new book of the same name, and he will be executive producing the show as well as writing the screen adaptation.
Like Broadchurch, it seems that Death at the White Hart will have a picturesque setting, as it is set in a fictional Dorset village called Fleetcombe. The plot follows Detective Nicola Bridge, who is on a local murder case. When the village pub’s landlord is found murdered, Nicola "must unpick a web of lies and rivalries to unmask the killer" explains the synopsis.
"This is an irresistible story packed with dark secrets, unforgettable characters and a detective who is set to become iconic in the genre," it continued.
While many of the plot details of the series mirror those of the novel at this stage, we will have to wait and see how closely the final TV show sticks to the events of the book.
What happens in the Death at the White Hart book?
Like the TV show, the novel follows Detective Nicola Bridge, who moves back to Dorset from the big city. However, the last thing she expects is the pretty village of Fleetcombe to become the scene of a grisly murder.
The local pub landlord, Jim Tiernan, is found dead in a macabre scene on a country road and it's up to Nicola to find out who the killer is.
"Nicola soon realises everyone in the village has something to hide. The hairdresser. The delivery driver. The farmer. And even the little girl, hidden at the top of the playground slide," reads the novel's official description from the publisher, Penguin. "Somewhere among them, a killer hiding in plain sight."
Who is in the Death at the White Hart cast?
After the stellar casting of Chris' landmark TV show Broadchurch, we're hoping the new thriller will attract some big names as David Tennant, Olivia Colman and Jodie Whittaker all starred across the previous series.
Casting details are yet to be released for the newly commissioned show, but watch this space for all the latest news as it unfolds.
Where can I watch Death at the White Hart?
Death at the White Hart will be available to watch on ITV1 and STV, as well as to stream on ITVX and STV Player.
When is the Death at the White Hart release date?
The official release date of the new series has not yet been announced, although ITV have confirmed that the show will be in production next year.
If you can't wait to see more of Chris' work, he also has an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The Seven Dials Mystery which should be out on Netflix this year.
