If you thought medical dramas didn't get better than Grey’s Anatomy, Netflix is here to change your mind. The streamer is gifting us with one that might just rival the long-running series - and its name, Pulse, is rather fitting, because the details might actually get your pulse racing.

Netflix's first-ever English-language medical procedural drama will introduce us to Dr. Danielle "Danny" Simms (Willa Fitzgerald), a third-year resident and rising star on Maguire Medical Center’s medical team. And, in scenes reminiscent of Grey's Anatomy (hello Dr. Meredith Grey), we follow her as she juggles mounting relationship tensions alongside the high stakes of working in an emergency room in Miami.

What is Pulse about?

The 10-part series will follow the personal and professional lives of doctors and staff at a busy Miami trauma centre. Third-year medical resident Danny (Willa Fitzgerald) is the the centre of the drama, and finds herself unexpectedly promoted when the hospital’s respected chief resident Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is suspended.

Amid a hurricane (cue an onslaught of trauma cases) and the hospital going into lockdown, the pair must find a way to work together – despite the bombshell details of a complicated romance between them beginning to spill out. See the newly-released images for a glimpse of said romance.

In spite of the life and death cases medical cases, it's fair to say that personal drama plays a pretty big role in the series. Writer Zoe Robyn has given a taste of life inside the hospital: “You don’t really want to be in the hospital. But if you were in the hospital — this is the one you would want to be in,” she told Tudum. “You want to be in the care of these people.” That sounds like the kind of hospital we can get on board with.

Robyn also shared how crucial Danny and Phillips’ relationship is to the story. “We always endeavoured to make Danny and Phillips’ relationship a real, authentic look at a workplace romance,” she said. “We really wanted to play in the grey area of that situation. Pulse shows the edges and pitfalls of their relationship — but also all the joyous moments of working a high-pressure job like this.”
