Channel 4 is bringing a gripping new reality TV game show to our screens - and we predict it's going to be our new reality TV addiction which will rival The Traitors. The Inheritance is a high-stakes competition filled with "drama, mind games and mischief", where contestants battle for a life-changing fortune. Now, Elizabeth Hurley is confirmed to be on board playing 'The Deceased', the glamorous benefactor who sets the contestants challenges for a chance to win her inheritance.
The show is brought to us by Studio Lambert, the team behind The Traitors, so we can expect plenty of twists and turns from the "mischievous game", punctuated by Elizabeth's character's "wicked since of humour." Here's what we know about The Inheritance so far, including how the game works and how to watch it.
How does The Inheritance work?
Described as "part Knives Out, part Succession", The Inheritance is a 12-episode show that gives a group of 13 strangers the chance to inherit a fortune that belonged to a "glamorous benefactor" known as "The Deceased". Channel 4 had teased that the role would be played by a "British icon" and now actress and model Elizabeth Hurley has been confirmed for the part.
Set at a grand English country estate, contestants must work as a team to complete a series of challenges to release the money and complete The Deceased’s final requests. But there's a catch: "Only one player can claim the money gained in each request, so it’s up to one of them to persuade the others that they alone deserve the cash they earnt together."
Throughout the game, contestant must build alliances, outwit their opponents, and navigate a series of unexpected challenges with betrayal, strategy, and deception playing a key role.
Channel 4's head of reality and entertainment Steven Handley said the show, "isn’t just a battle of strategy, alliances, and inevitable betrayals - it’s a cocktail of drama, jeopardy, and outright mischief that Reality fans love.”
Speaking in a release, Elizabeth Hurley a that it was “a thrill to be part of this clever game, playing The Deceased," adding that she gets to dress "to the nines in every scene."
Who presents The Inheritance?
The Channel 4 show will be presented by Robert Rinder, starring as The Executor who oversees The Deceased's (Elizabeth Hurley's) wishes and provides her legal counsel.
Describing his role as The Executor, Rob Rinder said his responsibility is to "enforce the rules, keep the chaos in check - more or less - and make sure our players are deserving of every glittering penny left by our dearly departed deceased, played by the iconic Elizabeth Hurley.” He added that the series is “a high-stakes strategy game served with a side of scheming and sabotage."
How can I watch The Inheritance?
The Inheritance will air on Channel 4 in autumn this year, with an official release date expected soon. We can't wait!
