Spy thriller fans, we've got good news for you! While we've all been patiently hanging on for the arrival of Slow Horses series 5, a brand-new Prime Video spy series has entered the equation and it's set to be this year's biggest spy thriller. Starring Keeley Hawes as retired (or spoiler, not-so-retired) assassin Julie, the series is available to binge right now - and we're already slightly obsessed.

The six-part series, penned by award-winning writers and producers Harry and Jack Williams, who are behind hit shows Tourist and Fleabag) for Prime Video, and sees Julie (Hawes) forced to reconnect and work with her estranged son when her dangerous past catches up with her. Along the way, the pair are pushed to their physical and emotional limits - as is their relationship!

What is The Assassin about?

As its name suggests, the six-part series follows the story of retired assassin Julie (Keeley Hawes) and her estranged son Edward (Freddie Highmore), who are forced to reunite and work together in a fight for survival. When Julie's dangerous past catches up with her, the pair must flee and idyllic Greek island - and so the adventure begins.

The official synopsis continues: "With questions around Edward’s paternity and Julie’s past life as a hitwoman, the pair go on the run across Europe, working together in a fight for survival.

Along the way, their dysfunctional relationship is tested to its limits. Miss Austen and The Durrells' star Keeley Hawes leads the cast with Freddie Highmore, who came to prominence thanks to his roles in Finding Neverland, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In an interview with The Guardian, Keeley explained that filming involved "loads of running around. Big action sequences. I’m badass. It was more fun than anybody should be allowed to have at work."
