We’re calling it, the “ultimate” crime drama is coming to ITV! Uniting the cast of Downton Abbey and The Crown (already a genius move), A Taste For Murder, has sun, sea and a truly sizzling storyline.
The six-part series will whisk us off to Capri, where DCI Joe Mottram (Warren Brown) has relocated with his daughter after a personal tragedy. Rather than take the time to deal with his grief however, he quickly becomes immersed in the mysterious murder cases on the island.
Featuring family drama, the gorgeous Amalfi coastline and the sort of intriguing crime cases that will have us hooked from the word ‘murder’, it’s got all the makings of our next binge watch. Keen to know more? Here’s everything else we know about the upcoming series…
What is A Taste for Murder about?
At the heart of the drama is DCI Joe Mottram (Warren Brown), who's a star detective within the Metropolitan police. But when his wife dies suddenly, he retreats to Capri with his daughter to stay with his Italian in-laws for the summer.
Unsure how to face his grief, not to mention help heal his teenage daughter’s broken heart (who has also distanced herself from her dad), he becomes immersed in the local murder cases on the island. Cue the start of a thoroughly addictive series filled with family drama and murder mystery in abundance.
Downton Abbey's Phyllis Logan stars as Elena Da Vinale, the fiercely loyal, loving matriarch of the family, front-of-house manager of the family restaurant and mother to DCI Joe's late wife. According to the official synopsis, the drama also "features classic Italian cuisine as the main ingredient to each episode's central murder mystery, revealing the power of food to foster connection, community, and healing after devastating loss".
The series has Professor T co-creator Matt Baker at the helm, who's called it as much "a family drama as it is detective fiction", while the Chief Creative Officer of Eagle Eye, the production company behind the series, describes it as "an escapist detective series weaving intriguing crime cases with compelling family drama, all set against the beautiful Amalfi coastline."
"Cooking and food will play an important role in the show, reflecting the emotional dilemmas faced by our core characters, and helping the family at the heart of the series to heal past wounds,” says Eagle Eye’s Jo McGrath. “Featuring a standout cast, and some truly mouth-watering recipes, the show is set to be a delicious, irresistible treat for viewers."
