Nightbitch didn't just give Amy Adams a unique new role to get her teeth into, it also provided a different kind of filming experience.

The new movie is based on the book by Rachel Yoder and sees Adams play Mother who, after she pauses her career to become a stay-at-home mum, finds her life taking a surreal turn as she starts to turn into a dog.

Talking to Digital Spy, the star reflected on filming Nightbitch and the challenge presented by filming scenes with lots of dogs.

"Being on set between the dogs and a 3-year-old, you really just had to be ready for anything. They're great and lovely, but it was just a very unpredictable environment, which was great because it kept me very present, very grounded," Adams explained.

"I always knew I had to be really consistent in order to help everybody understand where we were going on any given day, but it keeps you super present. And it was really fun."

It didn't always go as smoothly as planned with her canine co-stars though as they were sometimes surprised by Mother's appearance.

"What happened was they had trained the dogs, and they had trained them with somebody who looked really friendly and was talking to them," Adams recalled.

"And then I came out and looked sort of like a sleepwalking zombie, and they were not cool with that. They did not trust that and, yeah, they got a little worked up about it."

Ahead of Nightbitch's release in cinemas, Adams also spoke to Digital Spy about how the movie highlights an aspect of motherhood that isn't "talked about".

Nightbitch is released in cinemas on 6 December.
