The Princess of Wales has announced she has finished her chemotherapy treatment in a personal message today (9 September).

On her official social media account, the Princess said it was "a relief" that her treatment had finally come to an end, adding that "the last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family."

In the post, Kate said, "The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you" and that "Life as you know it can change in an instant."

Although Kate's chemotherapy treatment has now finished, she explained that, "my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes," explaining that, "Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus."

Reflecting on the past few months, Kate added that she and her husband Prince William had taken time to "reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life" such as "simply loving and being loved."

Accompanying the personal message was a video of the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Princess Louis spending time together in nature as a family.

Kate has confirmed that she will be undertaking more public engagements in the coming months where possible, and thanked all of those who had extended their support and best wishes.

The Princess ended her post with a message of solidarity to others on their own cancer journey saying, "I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light so let that light shine bright."
