Hannah Waddingham must have had a hoot in the recording studio for this year's The Garfield Movie, in which she played the voice of Jinx, as the Emmy-winning star has just signed up for another animation.
This time, the Ted Lasso actress is set to narrate BBC One's adaptation of Julia Donaldson's children's book Tiddler, the story about a little fish with a big imagination.
Julia Donaldson's beloved tales are ripe for adaptation, proven by the BBC's yearly animations broadcast at Christmas time for the past twelve years, including The Gruffalo, Stick Man, Zog and last year's Tabby McTat, which 8.6 million people tuned into.
This Christmas, the picture book Tiddler will be brought to life, a story about "a small grey fish with a big imagination who gets lost in the deep wide ocean, until he’s saved by his own storytelling," says the BBC.
While Waddingham is in place to narrate the half-hour animated special, she'll be joined Rob Brydon, who - returning for his twelfth Donaldson adaptation - will voice multiple characters: Fisherman, Whale, Starfish and Anchovy. Rounding out the stellar voice cast is Ghosts' Lolly Adefope as Miss Skate and Jade Adams as Plaice.
"Voicing the narrator for this Christmas special from Magic Light Pictures has been a real joy to record," says Waddingham. "Tiddler is the tale of the storyteller in all of us, and helps children understand what it's like to be a small fish in a very big pond (and we’ve all felt THAT in life!) I have loved reading the books by Julia and Axel to my daughter over the years and it’s so lovely to get to bring one of them to screen in this beautiful animation."
Waddingham has been out and about aplenty this summer - from her winning performance at Silverstone to her memorable reactions in the crowd at Wimbledon. Having recently turned 50, the actress is nothing short of an icon - and her latest role proves she's a chameleon that keeps on giving.
Tiddler will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One this Christmas.
