With the news that more and more young adults are moving back home to live with their parents, space is fast becoming an issue for boomerang households (those whose grown-up children fly the nest, only to return due to rising rents and the ever-increasing cost of living).
Parents who are used to their homes without the patter of (not-so-tiny) feet are now having to make space for the return of the boomerang generation. Of course, their return doesn't mean they're back for good, so the need for flexible furniture may be the best solution.
Ikea has some great pieces that are perfect for this while not breaking the bank; and, most importantly, can be used when they finally move out (again)!
The store's Lycksele Murbo single chair bed, £170 (ikea.com), is ideal for a short stay and can be used for last-minute visitors, too. This Hemnes day bed (above) £260, is great for a spare bedroom that needs to be transformed. Not only can it be used as a comfy two-seater sofa, it can also be transformed into a single or double bed with ease.
So, while initially the idea of the kids returning may seem a little daunting for some, Ikea's solutions could well make it a little easier
