Sophie Ellis-Bextor to perform at BAFTAs following Saltburn success

Next month's BAFTA Film Awards will feature a special performance from Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

This exciting news follows a massive resurgence for her 2001 track 'Murder on the Dancefloor', which soundtracked a scene from Emerald Fennell's latest project Saltburn.

In the wake of Saltburn's release, Ellis-Bextor's song not only went viral across TikTok and other social media platforms, it also entered the Billboard Top 100 for the very first time.

Saltburn itself is nominated across five categories at the BAFTAs, which is being hosted by Doctor Who's David Tennant. The film is nominated for: Best Actor in a Leading Role (Barry Keoghan), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Jacob Elordi), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Rosamund Pike), Best Original Score (Anthony Willis), and Outstanding British Film.

While speaking to PEOPLE back in December, Bextor reflected on the wild 'Murder on the Dancefloor' sequence.

"Seeing it written down as a premise is different. I mean, Barry really went for it. And it's, like, the whole song!" she said.

"This little synopsis described how the character would be dancing, but I didn't have any context. I've got quite a quirky sense of humour anyway, so I was like, I think I have to see how this plays out.

"I didn't really know exactly how it would play in terms of the role it was in the movie until I saw it at the screening, but I absolutely loved it... I think it's such a clever, funny, smart film," the singer-songwriter added.

Saltburn centers on the Oxford scholarship pupil Oliver Quick, who develops a fixation with the aristocratic Felix Catton while staying at his family's opulent estate in the summer.
