With the shape of family life in the UK changing radically in recent years and the pressures on families greater than they've ever been, here at Good Housekeeping, we are launching a new charity partnership and campaign for 2024 with Family Action.

Announcing the exciting news in the March issue of Good Housekeeping, Editorial Director Gaby Huddart penned: “Family Action is an incredible organisation that works in a myriad of ways, from its 24/7 phone support service FamilyLine to its FOOD [Food On Our Doorstep] Clubs and mentoring schemes.”

Writing to readers, she added: “You've given me so much feedback about how you feel it's vital to pay it forward to the next generation that it feels absolutely right - particularly as we look to the future during our 100th anniversary year of the Good Housekeeping Institute - for us to be working with Family Action as our charity partner in 2024.”

Family Action was originally set up in 1869 to strengthen families, and has been at the forefront of providing innovative support to families across the country ever since. Indeed, it established the forerunners of what we now know as Job Centres, opened the first Citizen’s Advice Bureau, established the founding principles of social work and more besides.

Core to the charity is the belief that family is the key to positive futures - for both individuals and communities. Working from the heart of local communities and through the national FamilyLine, the charity reaches tens of thousands each year.

There for every age and stage of life, the charity puts food on the table with its FOOD Clubs scheme, gives new families the best start through perinatal, parenting and post-adoption support, and helps people rediscover their lost confidence through its wellbeing and counselling services.

The charity has a longstanding connection with The Royal Family, too, with Queen Elizabeth II becoming the charity’s patron in 1953, upon the death of Queen Mary. In 2019, the charity’s 150th anniversary year, The Princess of Wales took over the patronage.

Sir David Holmes CBE, Chief Executive at Family Action, said: “We are delighted to have been selected as Good Housekeeping’s charity partner for 2024. We are looking forward to sharing the pressures we see facing families facing today with Good Housekeeping’s readers, and demonstrating how our work really does make a difference.

“By highlighting the issues people call us about on our FamilyLine helpline, the work of our inspirational staff and volunteers and our support of young people working through mental health struggles, we will be showing how strong family relationships are the key to positive futures, for individuals, and communities.

“Being able to showcase our work with Good Housekeeping, Britain’s biggest-selling lifestyle magazine, is a wonderful opportunity for everyone at Family Action, and we want to thank the Good Housekeeping team for creating this fantastic partnership with us.”
