Big Little Lies season three is officially in the works, star and producer Reese Witherspoon has now confirmed.
The HBO limited series was met with critical acclaim and fan admiration, so much so that a second season was quickly greenlit. Fans have since called for a third season, but news on that front has been scarce... until now.
Reese revealed the news in a red carpet interview with Variety at the Golden Globes on Sunday, explaining: "We are working on it. Nic [Nicole Kidman] and I have been working on it a lot."
Previously, Nicole Kidman, who also produces the show, recently confirmed that a third season is underway. "We will be bringing you a third one, just FYI," Kidman said.
The first season was based on Liane Moriarty's book of the same name, with the storyline following a group of women – played by Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, and Zoë Kravitz – who get caught up in a murder investigation in Monterey, California.
Meryl Streep then joined the second season, bolstering the show's already A-list cast. No casting news has been announced for season three just yet.
Previously, Zoë Kravitz revealed that she thought a third season might not work and that season three wouldn't be on the cards.
"I don't think it is. We talked about doing a season 3 a lot and, unfortunately, Jean-Marc Vallée, our incredible director, passed away this last year and I just can't imagine going on without him.
"He really was the visionary for that show. So, unfortunately, it's done."
Thankfully for Big Little Lies fans, it looks like Witherspoon and Kidman have found a way to make season three work.
Big Little Lies aired on HBO in the US and on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
