Strictly Come Dancing star Kai Widdrington has shared his pride after a special day for his family.

The professional dancer attended the FA Cup 3rd Round tie between West Bromwich Albion and Aldershot Town, the latter of whom he has a special connection to.

The team play in the National League, the fifth tier, and are managed by Kai’s father Tommy, while his brother Theo plays in midfield for them.

Aldershot beat Swindon Town and Stockport County in the qualifying rounds, leading them to go up a match against Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

The gulf in class proved too much, with West Brom running out 4-1 winners. This didn’t stop Kai from outlining his pride as he shared a photo with Theo on Instagram, writing: “A very proud day for the Widdrington family and @aldershottownfcofficial 🙌🏼❤️💙Yes I’ve got two scarves on 🧣”

Several fans commented on the sweet post, with one follower writing: “Awww I said to Dad ‘I bet Kai is in the away end!’ They really got behind the team and your Dad! Hope you enjoyed the delights of West Brom.”

Kai is more used to spending his weekends on the dancefloor, and the star recently announced that he had joined the British DanceSport Association (BDSA) as a board member and ambassador, announcing his new role in a statement.

“I am excited to join this new and ambitious organisation, and play my part in contributing to a positive change in the dance community,” he said. "DanceSport already makes such a great impact on so many people's lives, encouraging them to try our fantastic sport.”

Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
