Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has an exciting update on the film spin-off.

The writer confirmed to Radio Times that he's just finishing up work on the script, with filming now set to begin in 2024.

"I’m just working on the final bits of it at the moment," he revealed. "I just sit down at the keyboard and start. It’s a bit like having a dream, for me. You sit there and all this stuff comes, and then you read it back and think, 'That’s pretty good – but where did it come from?'

"The plan is to start shooting that in the middle of next year."

Knight recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of the acclaimed series by confirming "the story is not yet over".

A message on the show's social media account teased: "Huge thanks to our incredible fans for the past ten years. Here’s to the next ten."

The writer's most recent comments will surely be welcomed by fans, since Cillian Murphy had told Radio Times earlier this year that he wasn't sure about the film.

"That’s probably the worst thing about Peaky Blinders – getting asked about the movie all the time!" he joked. "I would love to do a movie if there’s more story to tell. I’ll wait and see but I have no update for you on that."

Knight remains incredibly busy running his state-of-the-art film and television production studio Digbeth in Birmingham.

He has also teamed up with the BBC and a set of young writers for a drama based around a group of young people at one of Birmingham's five universities.

Peaky Blinders is available to stream on BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
