Ripley, the new Netflix series starring Andrew Scott, has released its first look with three stylish photos.
The eight-part series is the latest adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s The Talented Mr Ripley, which follows the titular character (Scott) as he succumbs to the allure of opulence in 1960s Italy.
The first-look images show Scott’s Ripley in gorgeous black-and-white photography, a noticeable change from the 1999 film adaptation which emphasised the sun-drenched beauty of the natural landscape.
The logline for the series, which will premiere next year, reads: “Tom Ripley is a scammer scraping by in early-'60s New York when he crosses paths with a wealthy man who hires him to travel to Italy and convince his son to return home.
“But entering their world of opulence changes everything. And so begins Tom's new life, coloured by deceit, fraud, darkness, and yes, murder.”
Co-starring alongside Scott are Johnny Flynn, Dakota Fanning and Eliot Sumner, with The Night Of creator Steven Zaillian handling both the script and directing duties.
Ripley will stream on Netflix in 2024.
