Big Little Lies star Nicole Kidman has revealed that a third season of the hit show is in the works.

The HBO adaptation of Liane Moriarty's bestselling novel followed the lives of a group of wealthy Californian parents, who find themselves embroiled in a murder investigation.

Season two — which saw Meryl Streep join the star-studded cast — concluded in July 2019. Rumours of another season have been circulating ever since, with Kidman now appearing to confirm that the fan-favourite series will be coming back to screens.

Speaking at a Q&A event at the CME Group Tour Championship on Saturday (18 November), the Oscar winner explained why the show meant so much to her before teasing its anticipated return.

"I loved Big Little Lies because it sort of came along at a time in my life when I had my children and I was thinking I was going to retire and then this situation came along, where Reese Witherspoon and I were able to produce that show. Then all of you watched it and made it a massive success."

She then added: "We will be bringing you a third one, just FYI," much to the excitement of the audience.

Kidman and Witherspoon both produced and starred in the show, alongside Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz and Shailene Woodley.

Ahead of Kidman's comments, co-star Kravitz previously stated that she doesn't think a third season would work after the death of director Jean-Marc Vallée.

"We talked about doing a season 3 a lot and, unfortunately, Jean-Marc Vallée, our incredible director, passed away this last year and I just can't imagine going on without him. He really was the visionary for that show," she said on a Q&A hosted by GQ.

Big Little Lies aired on HBO in the US and on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
