Having tackled many topics - no matter how difficult - Stacey Dooley has become adept at exploring big talking points, from criminality to war zones and homelessness.

Now, Stacey has announced that she has been working on a new documentary, which will explore death through a "frank yet sensitive" lens.

The TV presenter and journalist revealed details of the new documentary in an Instagram post yesterday (Monday 23 October).

"Our new film looking at death is finished and will air next month. A frank yet sensitive approach, hopefully," Stacey captioned her Instagram post. "A sincere thank you to the families we filmed with. So grateful."

Alongside a photo sharing a glimpse into the new film, broadcaster Stacey also noted that the documentary will be coming soon to BBC iPlayer.

The BBC previously revealed that the programme will see Stacey helping to arrange funerals, making coffins and learning about embalming.

During the documentary, the BBC says, Stacey will also follow several funerals from start to finish to see how faith and secular beliefs play a role in the services.

According to the BBC, Stacey said she wanted to "explore exactly what happens when we die".

"Death is a topic that's openly discussed in many other cultures, even celebrated in some instances," she said. "Yet I am so awkwardly British about the whole thing."

The documentary comes as a wave of people are having more open discussions about bereavement and grief, from navigating the death of a loved one to discussing wills and life insurance.

While an exact transmission date has yet to be announced, the programme is expected to air on BBC One in November 2023.
