The Great British Bake Off spoilers follow.
The Great British Bake Off 2023 saw temperatures hit boiling point in the tent as the nine remaining bakers faced Chocolate Week — and an elimination twist.
Last night's (18 October) episode featured chocolate meltdowns, several jokes about nuts and an early exit due to illness that meant none of the contestants were eliminated.
The episode kicked off with the classic Signature challenge, as judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood tasked the remaining bakers with producing their own variant of a chocolate torte.
Rowan shone in the Signature, with Paul telling him his mocha torte was "beautiful". Meanwhile, Prue branded Cirsty's almond, chocolate and cherry torte as flavourless.
Up next came a difficult Technical challenge, in which the contestants were asked to create eight cheesecakes complete with a blackcurrant compote and white chocolate topping.
Dan came first in the Technical, with Prue noting that his cheesecakes were the only "perfect" ones, while Saku and Cristy struggled at the bottom.
Unfortunately, Tasha was forced to leave Chocolate Week early after falling ill during the Technical. She will return to the competition next week.
However, at this point in the episode, Paul revealed that he and Prue were still considering sending a contestant home, with Saku and Cristy in danger.
For the Showstopper, the bakers were asked to create an edible chocolate cake box alongside a selection of their own chocolates.
The final challenge overwhelmed the contestants, as several bakers struggled to create their designs. Josh had to re-temper his chocolate panels after they didn't set properly, while Rowan's presentation mistakes cost him a chance at Star Baker.
Saku also struggled, being unable to create multiple fillings for her chocolates. "I'm done with chocolate! No more chocolate in my life, ever," she said afterwards.
At the end of the episode, hosts Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond revealed the final results: Matty won the honour of Star Baker, and no one would leave this week due to Tasha's illness.
"It wasn't fair that someone left," Paul explained, adding that two bakers will be eliminated during Pastry Week next week.
The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4.
