The Lionesses’ goalkeeper, Mary Earps, has thanked fans for their support after her England jerseys sold out on Nike’s website within hours.
During the Women's World Cup this summer, Earps received support from fans after she hit out at the ‘extremely hurtful’ decision not to sell her shirt during the tournament, with over 170,000 people signing a petition calling on the kit manufacturer to change their mind. During the tournament, fans were able to purchase the Lionesses' outfield home and away shirts, shorts and socks but not Earps' goalkeeper jersey.
After pressure from fans, Nike, which manufactures the England team's kit, eventually made a U-turn and created limited quantities of the shirt in green, yellow and pink, which went up for sale on Monday with no announcement from the brand.
Earps was quick to reassure fans that the sold-out jerseys would be restocked. Taking to her Instagram, she wrote: 'Didn't realise these were going on sale today. And you've sold them out already!
'More are coming before the end of the year and in more sizes (kids and adults) so stay tuned! Thank you all for your incredible support on this. You guys have made this happen!'
Earps was named Fifa’s Best Goalkeeper after the Lionesses' triumphant run in the Women's World Cup in August, in which the England team placed second after losing against Spain in the final.
