Susanna Reid has unveiled a glimpse into her new documentary, which will explore how we can help schoolchildren with their mental health.

The documentary will air on ITV1 at 8.30pm on Tuesday 10 October.

The programme was developed in light of recent statistics, which show that mental health has declined in almost 40 per cent of England’s schoolchildren.

Susanna shared a picture of herself smiling, while sitting with a student in a school classroom.

The post - which also went onto ITV's own Instagram account - was captioned: "With mental health reported to have declined in almost 40 per cent of England’s schoolchildren, Susanna Reid asks what can be done to help our kids in Can Britain Get Talking? on ITV1, Tuesday at 8:30pm"

Susanna's documentary comes as ITV and STV launch a new initiative from their mental health campaign, Britain Get Talking.

According to ITV, the initiative has been developed in partnership with charity partners Mind, YoungMinds and the Scottish Association of Mental Health, as well as a clinical child psychologist and the teaching community.

The project will encourage every school in the country to set a different kind of homework this World Mental Health Day, with the ‘homework’ being a unique talking task that encourages children to open up and discuss what’s on their minds.

When is World Mental Health Day?

World Mental Health Day takes place today (10 October). The aim of the day is to show everyone that mental health matters and that it's okay to ask for help.

The theme of this year's awareness day highlights that 'mental health is a universal human right.'
