The Duchess of Edinburgh has travelled to Ethiopia to support some important causes and learn more about the work of organisations there.
Sophie was visiting with the charity Orbis, to "highlight services protecting the vision of children and adults," according to a post by the Royal Family. The Duchess is an ambassador for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.
Sophie "met health workers screening for and treating blinding trachoma at a primary eye care unit," as visiting a local school where she saw "how children are screened by teachers for eye conditions, and where they learn how to protect themselves from trachoma through school eye care clubs."
More information about her visit and photographs of Sophie's time in the Tigray region of the country, were shared to the Royal Family's instagram account. A caption explained that, "This week, The Duchess of Edinburgh is in Ethiopia to celebrate the transformative work of eye care charity @orbisintl, and to participate in national World Sight Day festivities."
"Over the weekend, Her Royal Highness travelled to Tigray to see the work of @unicefethiopia, in response to the devastating and far-reaching impact of conflict related sexual violence (CRSV) and gender-based violence," continued the post.
Photos shared within the post show the Duchess admiring some colourful weaving as well as having a go at making a basket of own.
Sophie can also be seen engaging in a game of ping pong with some children at the Sabacare IDP Camp, where she was also able to speak with some of the "16,000 Internally Displaced Persons about the ongoing challenges they face and the specialised help they receive from @unicef workers."
The Duchess was in a one of the child-friendly spaces at the camp, "where children have a safe place to play, learn and thrive," according to post by the Royal Family.
For her visit, The Duchess wore a long sleeve floral maxi dress in a deep blue with a pair of woven wedged sandals, for a relaxed and comfortable look.
