Meryl Streep has suggested a story idea for her character Donna Sheridan in a possible Mamma Mia! 3 movie.
The award-winning actress, currently starring in Only Murders in the Building season 3, shared her thoughts on a possible plot for a third Mamma Mia! movie while speaking to Vogue.
"I’m up for anything," she said. "I’ll have to schedule a knee scoping before we film, but if there’s an idea that excites me, I’m totally there.
"I told [producer] Judy [Craymer] if she could figure out a way to reincarnate Donna, I’m into that. Or it could be like in one of those soap operas where Donna comes back and reveals it was really her twin sister that died."
The actress also joked that the third film might have to be renamed "Grand-Mamma Mia! by the time we make it".
In Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, audiences learned that Donna had tragically passed away, with pregnant daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) now running and renovating the Greek taverna on the island of Kalokairi.
The central plot focused on Donna's backstory (with a young Donna portrayed by Lily James) and how she met Bill, Sam and Harry, the three suspected fathers of Sophie, who arrived for her wedding in the first film.
Though older Donna is dead in the second film, moviegoers did get a few glimpses of Streep reprising her role in a few brief flashback sequences.
